Material to support technical and associate degree programs will have priority.

  • A collection of current and historical print and non-print resource materials.
  • Print and electronic resources to support specialized collections.
  • Material that will encourage and promote reading, lifelong learning, pursuit of knowledge, and the development of occupational and critical life skills.
  • Material which reflects the ideas and beliefs of religious, social, political, historical, and ethnic groups and their contribution to the American and world heritage and culture.
  • Material on controversial issues, the selection of which will be directed toward maintaining a balanced collection representing various viewpoints.
  • Material, both fiction and non-fiction, for recreational reading if resources permit.  The emphasis will be on acquiring these materials through donations.

Access to additional material from other collections will be provided through interlibrary loan, consortial and resource sharing agreements.

Donations
The WCTC Library gratefully accepts donations that conform with this Collection Development Policy. However, because of space considerations or other priorities, the director of library services may sometimes need to decline donations even when those donations meet the criteria above. All accepted donations will be reported to the WCTC Foundation, which will send out an acknowledgement letter to serve as a valid receipt to the donor. Also, the donor’s name will appear in the Foundation’s Annual Report unless a request is made to remain anonymous.
