Obtaining a Social Security Number
The Social Security Administration (SSA) will issue a social security number for employment purposes only. If you have problems in establishing a bank account, renting an apartment or opening a cell phone account, contact GEC. We can help you find other ways to satisfy the requirement with the agency requesting the number.
To get a Social Security Number, you must present the following documents at the Social Security Administration Office:
Obtaining a Social Security Denial Letter
If you wish to apply for a Driver’s License but do not yet have a Social Security Number, you must request a “denial letter” from the Social Security Administration. This letter must be obtained before you go to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for your appointment.
