Presented By: Mark Soderstrom, PhD, Aurora University

Mark Soderstrom is Associate Professor and Chair of History at Aurora University (Aurora, IL), where he teaches a variety of courses on Russian, Soviet, East Asian, world, and environmental history. He also serves as director of the university’s Environmental Studies program. He completed his PhD in History at Ohio State University in 2011 and has traveled widely across Russia and Siberia, including as a Fulbright Scholar in 2009. His research focuses on the history of the Russian Empire and he is currently completing a book project tentatively titled “Enlightening the Land of Midnight: Peter Slovtsov, Ivan Kalashnikov, and the Saga of Russian Siberia.”
